A Day for Wine and Roses

Before Christmas became a distant memory, Robert Robertson was preparing for this special day. By early January Expressions Flowers had already begun taking Valentine’s Day orders for today’s delivery. With an increased staff of designers and near a half dozen extra drivers, he is ready for the busiest day of the year in the floral business.

Unlike most local florists, Robert orders his floral inventory direct from the growers. Every Thursday he attends a virtual auction where he bids and purchases flowers he anticipates needing the following week. Those stems are then fresh cut and shipped for immediate delivery, ensuring his customers the freshest and best quality.

The lovely roses in this photo came from Expressions. They were photographed by Sarah Treece for a Facebook post we created in 2016 to promote the Wine and Roses fundraiser for the Reynolds Cancer Support House. What better time to once again support this event! This year’s fundraiser takes place April 14th, 6:30 pm at the Reynolds Cancer Support House, 3324 South M St. The black-tie optional event features gourmet foods, exceptional wines, and eclectic art. After a lively auction of wine and experience packages, Funk Factory will take the stage to entertain and complete the festivities.

2018 marks a 40 year anniversary that the Cancer Support Foundation has been assisting area patients and their families. Eighteen of those years have been at their current location across from the Creekmore tennis courts. The center provides support to patients in 14 Western Arkansas and Eastern Oklahoma Counties. Because of generous community support and grants from the Arkansas Cancer Coalition, Susan G. Komen Foundation, The Degen Foundation and Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation, the Cancer Support House is able to help thousands of patients and survivors each year.

Sponsorship opportunities, as well as tickets, are still available. Learn more at http://reynoldscancersupporthouse.org/2018-wine-roses/ or call 479-782-6302.

Colleen Perry has spent more than 20 years in the publishing industry. As a Project Manager for a niche publisher out of Chicago, she spent 13 years working with Chambers of Commerce in more than 28 states assisting them in the development of their marketing tools. This mainly consisted of selling the supporting advertising and working with community leaders to create publication content. Prior to co-founding BSavvy Magazine in late 2015, she spent the last 10 years with WindCheck and Southern Boating Magazines where she developed effective advertising campaigns within the marine industry of high-end yacht builders. It was during this time that she began to realize the value of a publication that offered relevant and timely advertiser-driven content. The result was the creation of BSavvy Magazine - a platform in which the business community could share experiences, successes, and concerns while fostering a culture of entrepreneurship and social responsibility.
